Work with ASA Now

ASA Now brings awareness to Arizona’s foster care crisis and creates opportunities for the community to volunteer to impact the lives of our most vulnerable population: children who were abused, abandoned or neglected at the hands of the very people who were supposed to protect them. ASA Now creates a healing space where immediate needs are met along with other resources for children who have fallen behind educationally due to difficult circumstances. 

Recently, ASA Now has started Shade Tree Academy, a private school for children impacted by Foster Care. Equine therapy, aqua therapy, and a trauma school that caters to the needs of foster children are provided. 

Just this year, 9,733 children and 3,236 families have been served. EaselArts Inc. began volunteering at ASA Now a little over a year ago and continued to hold art classes and fundraise for their cause.

Lifeskills Classes

Lifeskills classes at ASA Now include resources for youth members in the foster care system to succeed when aging out of the system. Teaching foster teens about skills necessary to provide for themselves and prosper in the future, ASA Now holds these monthly classes. EaselArts holds art lessons during these classes, providing youth members with a sense of stress relief and creative engagement. 

Fostering Creativity for Foster Children

This summer, EaselArts planned to raise funds for ASA Now, a community organization working to bring awareness to the foster care crisis in Arizona. ASA Now creates opportunities for our community to volunteer to impact the lives of our most vulnerable population by providing a healing space. EaselArts strives continuously to advocate for the arts within the youth community which resulted in a partnership with ASA Now. Together, we hoped to raise funds for foster care while advocating for art education and awareness through workshops, sponsorships, auctions, and other events. We held art classes on a weekly basis with foster children and raised funds through donations, events, and art workshops. We managed to meet our goal of $25,000 and donated to ASA Now at their ribbon cutting ceremony for the Shade Tree Academy.

Arts in Health, Healing and Wellness

EaselArts Inc. works towards improving mental health through the promotion of arts and it’s healing nature. Creative activities can relieve stress, aid communication, and help arrest cognitive decline. The visual arts serve as a creative outlet to channel any emotions or frustration to promote positive feelings. The arts serve as their own form of communication, resulting in outcomes different from verbal therapy, revealing what can not be said. Through this event, our mission was to spread the various benefits of the arts along with fundraising for ASA Now.

Sponsors were entered in a raffle to win an art commission of their choice. Numbers of tickets entered in the raffle is based on the sponsorship level. We had an art show at the ribbon cutting ceremony, celebrating all our talented students’ artwork at the end of the fundraiser. During this show, I got a chance to speak about the fundraiser in front of honorable members of out community, showcase student artwork, and express the importance of the mission of EaselArts.
